Welcome Back!

17th of May 2020

Kia Ora Whanau and welcome back!

We are so looking forward to welcoming you all back this week into our new way of being at school. It’s great to be getting out and about now under level 2 and reconnecting with people and places. Just a few notes for the following week.

These are ‘directives and rules’ that have been advised by the Government and Ministry of Education. We know that it is not our usual way of being. Tina and Lynley will have difficulty following some of the rules, and will be encouraging the children, and each other to tell us when we are not keeping the “moist breath zone”.

  • Pick ups and drop offs.
Under alert level 2 parents and caregivers are asked not to come on site unless absolutely necessary. We will be waiting by the gate for children during these times. Children will be unable to enter school before 8:30. We know this is a new step for some of our children and we will be there as usual to support them through this. If we’re not going to sight you at the Tillman Ave  gate after school can you please let us know what arrangements you’ve made, e.g. sibling pickup, after school care, grandparents etc.

  • Communication
Now that school is ‘back to business’ we will be back to communicating through posts on our blog as well as via email. Anything we should know for the day ahead please email us or call the office and they’ll get a message to us.

  • Drink bottles
These are an essential part of every day. Please make sure your child has a named drink bottle for use. As usual, we will top these up during the day. Under level 2 we won’t be providing cups and the drinking fountains are turned off so it really is important every child has one.

  • Sickness
All children who are unwell need to stay home. Children who show symptoms of sickness will be sent home immediately.

All visitors that do need to enter the school premises need to sign in at the gate using a QR code or head to the office to register details there. Remember, you need to identify all the spaces in the school you will be visiting.

  • Moist breathe zone
A reminder to keep looking at this. Lot’s of what we are going to be talking about with our children is covered in this video.

  • Friday
Back to bikes on a Friday! Yay! We know that some of our children have been practising on their bikes over the lockdown and would love to celebrate them all at school.

  • Bringing things from home
Please for the first few weeks we are asking that  all colouring - in books, pens, LOL dolls, pokemon cards and the likes stay at home. We have put out loads of new pens and will have colourings and paper available.

We know this all sounds ‘heavy’ but want to assure you that our Nga Puna kids will also have lots of sameness when they return. We will be working on reconnecting with our friends and our everyday routines and ways of being at school. We plan on going gently and slowly with our tamariki.
We have been advised that there needs to be 48 hours between ‘sharing’ of books, so will wait for some more guidance on this, before sending reading books home.

Lastly, well done to you all. We know this is a big step and we are looking forward to seeing you (from a distance!!) and your lovely children - close up!! YAY!

Any questions or queries, do get in contact with us.

Many thanks

Lynley and Tina.
